Welcome! I’m Kristina!
I’m an award winning cookbook author, passionate home cook, and baker. You might know me from my books Mooncakes & Milk Bread or Chinese Enough. Maybe you’ve been following me @eatchofood on various forms of social media. However you got here, I’m happy you’re here!
I love to cook to bring moments of joy into the lives of people I care about. My recipes honor my Chinese heritage, while also exploring the elements and influences of my life growing up in the Midwest and now living in the San Francisco Bay Area. My range of recipes varies quite a bit, which keeps this newsletter exciting! One week you might get a recipe for laminated green onion buns for Bun of the Month and the next week might be a weeknight friendly tofu and celery stir-fry! Whether sweet or savory, quick or labor intensive, my recipes are thoughtful, creative, and always delicious.
Rather than asking “How are you?”, my family begins most conversations with: “Have you eaten yet?” Actually, what I hear is “sihk jó faahn meih a?” which translates to “Have you eaten rice yet?” in Cantonese. I remember overhearing my dad on phone calls to our family in Hong Kong. He would immediately dive into very detailed questions about what my aunt or uncle had made for dinner. “Have you eaten yet?” is a loaded question. Ultimately, it means, “I care about you and want to make sure you’re well fed and eating right.”
This newsletter is how I would love to check in with you each week! It is meant to feel like an extension of my kitchen. Each week a new recipe finds its way to your inbox and I hope that when you read it you’ll feel like you just pulled up a seat at my counter and we’re just catching up on life and nerding out about food with a warm cup of matcha and a snack.
So, pull up a seat!
