It’s our favorite thing to do as a family too. I love how across all cultures, food brings people to the table together. It’s a beautiful thing 💛

Thank you for sharing your food adventures with your parents while they were out here visiting. Love reading about other families’ eating and cooking habits. Regarding great har gao, have you tried the frozen ones at Costco? It seems like every Chinese family hit the local Costco when the frozen shrimp dumplings went on sale recently. 40 to a box for $10. I didn’t get a chance to try any, but my mom, who, like your parents, is very picky, said they were great. No mushy skin, just as good if not better than restaurant quality.

I loved reading this post. Yum. MIss eating Chinese food w my dad when my parents would come to visit Honolulu. I was really interested to compare prices, too. That sando is incredibly cheap! I don't think you can even get half a bahn mi in HI for that price. Our roast duck half is around $20 now, so I was glad to see that. mahalo, always fun "eating" w you and your fam.

Hi Kristina, I loved the newsletter you published today and can relate to your comment about vibe/ambiance with respect to your parents. Mine are exactly the same way! Thank you for reviewing Asian Pearl. We miss the dim sum at Saigon Seafood Harbor which closed and are on the lookout for a new favorite place. Have you tried King Valley Tea House in Pinole? It’s pretty good. Loved all your recs, thank you! Maybe I’ll see you at our local CVS again. 😂
